Swedish Massage
  • The most common type of massage requested to reduce stress and increase relaxation is Swedish Massage. Swedish massage therapy is the modality that comes to mind when most people think about massage.
  • One of the primary goals of the Swedish massage technique is to relax the entire body. The therapist uses oil or lotion with several basic strokes that are applied with light to medium pressure, depending on the client's preference. The therapist determines the sequence of strokes that will best work for each client according to their needs, typically beginning with broad general strokes, transitioning to more detail specific strokes to address problem areas, and finishing with broad connecting strokes.

Deep Tissue
  • Deep tissue massage is a type of massage therapy that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronic aches and pains and contracted areas such as stiff neck and upper back, low back pain, leg muscle tightness, and sore shoulders.

  • Deep tissue massage usually focuses on a specific problem, such as chronic muscle pain, injury rehabilitation, and the following conditions:

  • Chronic pain

  • Lower back pain

  • Limited mobility

  • Recovery from injuries (falls and/or sports injury)

  • Muscle tension or spasm

  • After a workout or bodybuilding

  • Muscle tension in the hamstrings, glutes, IT band, legs, quadriceps, rhomboids, upper back

Hot Stone Massage
  • Hot stone massage is a variation on classic massage therapy. Heated smooth, flat stones are placed on key points on the body. The massage therapist may also hold the stones and use them to massage certain areas of the body.

  • Hot stone massage is suited to people who tend to feel chilly or who have cold feet. It's also suited for people who have muscle tension but prefer a lighter massage. The heat relaxes muscles, allowing the therapist to work the muscles without using deep pressure.

  • People also get hot stone massage for a variety of health conditions:

  • Back pain and aches

  • Poor circulation

  • Arthritis

  • Osteoarthritis

  • Stress, anxiety and tension

  • Insomnia

  • Depression

Sports Massage
  • Sports massage therapy is geared toward athletes of every kind, from world-class professionals to weekend joggers. The particulars of the sports massage technique are specific to the athlete's sport of choice. Focusing on areas of the body that are overused and stressed from repetitive and often aggressive movements.

  • Sports massage therapy can be used as a means to enhance pre-event preparation and reduce recovery time for maximum performance during training or after an event. Athletes have discovered that specially designed sports massage promotes flexibility, reduces fatigue, improves endurance, helps prevent injuries and prepares their body and mind for optimal performance.

Neuromuscular Massage
  • Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) is a very specialized form of manual therapy. A therapist trained in NMT is educated in the physiology of the nervous system and its effect on the muscular and skeletal systems. The Neuromuscular Therapist also is educated in kinesiology and biomechanics and how to work in a clinical or medical environment.

  • Neuromuscular Therapy will be used to address five elements that cause pain:

  1. Ischemia: Lack of blood supply to soft tissues which causes hypersensitivity to touch

  2. Trigger Points: Highly irritated points in muscles which refer pain to other parts of the body

  3. Nerve Compression or Entrapment: Pressure on a nerve by soft tissue, cartilage or bone

  4. Postural Distortion: Imbalance of the muscular system resulting from the movement of the body off the longitudinal and horizontal planes

  5. Biomechanical Dysfunction: Imbalance of the musculoskeletal system resulting in faulty movement patterns (i.e., poor lifting habits, bad mechanics in a golf swing of tennis stroke, computer keyboarding)

Table Thai Massage
  • The massage table is a western invention. A traditional Thai house has very little furniture and almost everything is done on the floor. And they prefer it that way. There is a simplicity and even elegance to sitting and doing things on the floor – which is of course kept clean, as shoes are left at the door. Giving and receiving Thai massage on the floor has a certain feel, groundedness and connection that is missing on a table. However, it is possible to do a variation of at least half of the moves on a massage table, and western therapist can easily incorporate many Thai moves and elements into the other modalities they do on a table. That could be called “Swedish with Thai flavoring”. It is also possible for Thai practitioners who do the regular floor Thai to transfer their work with some adaptations to the table. In this case the intention is to do Thai, but adapted to a table. “Table Thai” will not have the same quality as Thai on a mat, but it could be called a new version of Thai.
